Klezmer

Michele Gingras is a member of the Cincinnati Klezmer Project, a group dedicated to performing traditional Klezmer music, songs of the Yiddish theatre and Jewish folk music. The clarinet plays an important role as a soloist in this type of music, which is becoming quite popular with audiences throughout the country. The group was founded by its director, Dr. Josh Moss in 1994. The group is now lead by guitarist Steve Stuhlbarg.

The Cincinnati Klezmer Project performs many Jewish celebrations in Cincinnati and the surrounding area. The group performed with the Cincinnati Symphony and the Huntington Symphony Orchestras. Michele Gingras and Josh Moss performed guest recitals at the International Clarinet Association Conferences in Belgium and Columbus, and at Indiana University, University of Denver, Oklahoma Clarinet Symposium, University of Northern Illinois Clarinet Cornucopia, Cornell University, World JamFest in Cincinnati, the Berklee Performance Center in Boston, the Tonic Club in New York City, CityFolk Festival in Dayton, Duke University, University of North Carolina-Greensboro, Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati, Earlham College in Indiana, the University of Akron (OH), Arizona State University, and the Cincinnati Main Public Library. In 2007, the group played a pre-concert performance for Emmy Award violinist Itzhak Perlman's concerto appearance with the Dayton Philharmonic.
