The mission of Miami3 is to perform and commission "Crossover" music. Crossover music is a style of music containing elements of "Classical" or "concert" music mixed with other styles such as Rag, Jazz, Klezmer, Folk, Pop, World Music, etc.

Harvey Thurmer joined the faculty at Miami University in 1997, where he is Associate Professor of Violin. Previously, he performed regularly in Europe's major concert halls, including the Concertegebouw of Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall in London, the Musikverein in Vienna, and the Salle Gaveau in Paris. Previously he taught and performed in England and Austria and taught in Colorado and Florida. He studied at the New England Conservatory, the Salzburg Mozarteum, and the University of Miami, where he earned his doctoral degree. He currently serves as concertmaster of the Richmond Indiana Symphony. In 2003 he released a recording with soprano Audrey Luna for the Ars Moderno label.
Michele Gingras is Professor of Clarinet at Miami since 1986, where she was named Crossan Hays Curry Distinguished Educator and Distinguished Scholar of the Graduate Faculty. She published one book and 150 articles and reviews for international publications. She performed worldwide and recorded twelve CDs, and also performs as a klezmer musician. She earned a Premier Prix at the Montreal Conservatory, a M.M. at Northwestern University, and did doctoral work at Indiana University. She is an Artist Clinician for Rico International and Buffet Crampon USA.
Heather MacPhail is staff accompanist at Miami and has been the piano accompanist for the Cincinnati May Festival Chorus for seventeen years. In addition, she is the organist at Westwood First Presbyterian Church, and is a frequent keyboardist with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra. She holds a M.M. in accompanying and a B.M. in piano performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She has served as accompanist and/or vocal coach for the Cincinnati Opera Company, Cincinnati Ballet Company, Cincinnati Choral Society, and University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music Childrens' Choir.
