IN THE STUDIO: RECENT STUDENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Shanti Raval (M.M. Performance, Miami 2006) is Adjunct Clarinet Instructor at New York University (NYU), where she is a Founders Fellow Doctoral student studying with Esther Lamneck and David Krakauer. In 2007, she won NYU's Concerto Competition with Copland Concerto. She published a five-page article on the clarinet in India in The Clarinet magazine, Sept., 2005
  • Simone Weber (Graduate student from Luxembourg, M.M. Performance 2008) performed Busoni's Clarinet Concertino with the MUSO on April 17, 2007. She won an Undergraduate Research Award at Miami in 2007. She published her first review in The Clarinet, Dec. 2007 and full-length 5-page feature article in The Clarinet, March 2008 (as well as two more reviews). More reviews from her pen are scheduled for 2008 future issues. She presented her research paper ("Mozart's Clarinet Concerto: The Influence of Scholarship as Reflected in Recordings") at The University of Toronto Music Graduate Student Association annual conference, March 14th 2008.
  • Will Cicola (M.M. Performance 2009) published a full-length 3-page feature article about klezmer in Clarinet and Saxophone magazine in England, Dec. 2007, and is scheduled to publish two more articles on the subject for the magazine in March 2008 and June 2008. He is also scheduled to publish reviews for The Clarinet magazine in June 2008. He is the founder of the very first klezmer band at Miami. He presented his research paper on klezmer music at The University of Toronto Music Graduate Student Association annual conference, March 14th 2008.
  • Jeanna Vella (B.M. in Mus.Ed. Miami '07) is a graduate student in NYU's Arts Administration program. She was the Producing and Play Development Intern for The Araca Group (producers of musical theater on Broadway), NYC until 2008, when she was appointed Manager of Campus Marketing at NYU’s Performing Arts Venue, The Skirball Center for the Performing Arts
  • Sara Dadabo (B.M. in Mus.Ed. Miami 2005) is choir director and music teacher at Clark County School District, Las Vegas, NV, 2007
  • Jason Shadle (B.M. in Mus.Ed. Miami '99) accepted a temporary full-time teaching position at the University of Dayton for the spring semester '06 as a sabbatical replacement. He will be instructing the junior-level instrumental methods class, a woodwind pedagogy class (sax/oboe/bassoon), and two sections of music for elementary education majors
  • Rebecca S. Wells (M.M. in Performance Miami '07) is Adjunct Faculty of Music at Northern Kentucky University in 2007 (clarinet studio, woodwind methods, Music Apprec for non-majors). She is a member of the Blue Ash Symphony Orchestra. She was awarded outstanding recognition for jazz performance at the 39th Annual Elmhurst College Jazz Festival in Chicago, 2006
  • Amanda Cornett (M.M. in Performance Miami '06) is Band Birector at Lincoln Junior High School and Assistant Band Director at Bentonville High School, Arkansas, 2006
  • Coleen Neumann (M.M. in Performance Miami '08 - Summer Mus.Ed. Program) is Band Birector at Trotwood Madison Middle School in Dayton, OH, 2006
  • Jon Pischl (B.M. in Mus.Ed. Miami 2006 - PICTURED ABOVE) is Band Director at Carroll H.S. in Dayton, OH, 2006-present
  • Brad Pipenger (B.M. in Performance and Mus.Ed. Miami 2008) won 3rd place in Miami’s 2008 Geoffrey P. Hall Undergraduate Artist Competition, March 6, 2008. In 2007, he performed at Carnegie Hall in NYC with the 2007 National Wind Ensemble, Conducted by H. Robert Reynolds.
  • Dr. Tim Dixon (B.M. in Mus.Ed. Miami '98, B.A. Miami '95) is Assistant Professor of Music, Director of Orchestral Activities, and Assistant Chair, Department of Music at Messiah College in Grantham, PA. He joined the faculty in 2002
  • Rachel Taylor (B.M. in Performace, Miami 2007) won the Mary Evans Rees
    Scholarship in her Junior year at Miami, 2006
  • Noel Robblee (M.M. in Performance, Miami '05), was hired as a clarinetist with the Air Force Reserve, Warner Robins, GA, Fall, 2005
  • Jessica Ingraham (B.M. in Mus.Ed. Miami '06), was awarded an Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) Memorial Scholarship. The competition for this award is statewide, with applicants from many colleges and universities in Ohio.
  • Molly Venneman (B.M. in Mus.Ed. Miami '06), is assistant band director
    at Wayne HS in the Huber Heights school district in Ohio since 2007. She works with two concert bands, a jazz band, the marching band and pep band, and teaches two music appreciation classes. Previously, she won a Miami University Undergraduate Scholars Award of $3000 to study Klezmer music and how to implement it into the general music curriculum in schools. Her five-page article about klezmer was published in the magazine TRIAD (OMEA convention issue, Dec. 2005), and she gave a presentation on klezmer at OMEA with her MusEd adviser, Dr. Kay Edwards. Also, she won the Nina Palmer Quay Memorial Scholarship at Miami during her Senior year.
  • Jessica Crone (M.M. in Performance, Miami '03), is Young Audiences New York -Director of Marketing and Public Relations in NYC. Previously, she was Associate Director of Marketing at MCC Theater (Off-Broadway) in NYC. She completed her M.A. in Performing Arts Administration at New York University in 2006. In 2004, she was Program Assistant for the Experimental Theater wing, Tish School of Arts, New York University, and she performed with the Rome Festival Orchestra.
  • Patrick Hanudel (B.M. in performance, and B.M. in Mus.Ed. Miami '99, grad studies at Rice), was Principal Clarinet with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, 2001-2003; He was accepted with a full scholarship in Performance at the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music to complete his graduate studies, Fall 2005. At CCM, he won the Chamber Music Competition in 2006. In 2008, he became an audio reviewer for the magazine American Record Guide
  • Linda (Eble) Brill (B.A. in performance, Miami '93) is currently working as a publications manager for the Columbus Symphony Orchestra (OH), and is second clarinet with the Southeastern Ohio Symphony in Zanesville, Ohio.
    After graduating from Miami, Linda earned her M.M. in clarinet performance at Florida State University with Dr. Frank Kowalski
  • Sean Dennison (B.M. in Mus.Ed. Miami 2000), was Visiting Clarinet Instructor, Arkansas Tech University, 2002; he now is a band director in AZ
  • Jessie Berne (B.M. in Mus.Ed. Miami 2003) , received a graduate assistantship in music history from Youngstown State University, OH. She graduated in 2005
  • Mindy Miller (B.M. in Mus.Ed. Miami 1998) , is Assistant Principal Clarinet with the U.S. Air Force Band, D.C., 2001-present
  • Erin Roesch (M.M. in Performance, Miami 1999) received a full teaching assistantship at Ball State University, where she is completing a Doctorate degree with Professor Caroline Hartig, 1999-present; Erin is also clarinet instructor at Earlham College, IN, and she performs with three symphony orchestras in the area
  • Kinneret Sagee (M.M. in Performance, Miami 2002) was hired on staff at National Youth Orchestra of Canada, 2006; She is a member of a klezmer band in Toronto called "Sisters of Sheynville"
  • Kim Nisius (B.M. in Mus.Ed. Miami 1998), became Adjunct Faculty of Music Education at Cuyahoga Community College, OH, 2003.
  • Ian Tyson (B.M. Performance and B.M. in Mus.Ed. Miami 2002), won a position in the clarinet section with the Air Force Band of Liberty in Boston, MA. He was appointed Airman First Class, 2005 and was promoted to Senior Airman in 2007. He earned his M.M. at Michigan State University, 2004
  • Steve Bodner (B.M. Performance, 1996), is Music Director of Williams College Symphonic Winds, Instructor of Saxophone, Williams College, Music Director of U. Mass Youth Wind Ensemble, and Assistant Conductor of New England Conservatory  (NEC) Youth Symphony
  • Shawn Lenney (B.M., 1996), won the "2002 Project Excellence Teacher of the Year" award for Warren County. Shawn was Director of Bands and Assistant Middle School Principal at Waynesville High School, Ohio, and became Band Director, Madison High School, Middletown OH, 2008
  • Kara Barbee (B.M. in Mus.Ed. Miami 2001), is Assistant Director at Winton Woods H.S., Cincinnati, 2001 (this position was specifically created for Kara Barbee)
  • Jill (Everett) Wilhelm (B.M. in Mus.Ed. Miami), is Head Band Director, Fairfield H.S., Ohio, 2002
  • Kristen Fleischer Wright (BM.Ed., 1999), is Music Teacher in the Westerville City School district.
  • Katie Myler (B.M. in Mus.Ed. Miami 1996), is Principal Clarinet with the Clayton Symphony Orchestra (MO), Adjunct Faculty-Clarinet with McKendree College (Lebanon, IL), and Clarinet Instructor/Youth Ensembles Coordinator with the Community Music School of Webster University (MO)

  • Melissa M. (Hinojosa) Carion (B.M. in Mus.Ed. Miami '94), is Band Director at Tremont School, OH
  • Steve Cook (Saxophone, Miami '92), performs professionally with rock bands and is now a repair technician and specialist in Cincinnati, 2006
  • Randy Thompson (B.M. in Mus.Ed. Miami '94), was Band Director at Blanchester HS, OH for several years. He performs professionally in the Cincinnati tri-state area and is Educational Services Representative for Willis Music in Cincinnati and Dayton, 2006
  • Chris Ferrell (B.M. in Mus.Ed. Miami '94), is a Yamaha Performing Artist, and he published an article in Yamaha's Newsletter entitled The Secret to Sound: Saxophone Tone Production. In 2006, Chris became Director of Bands at Hillgrove High School, north of Atlanta. Previously, he was Associate Director of Bands at L.D. Bell High School in Hurst Texas, and Director of Bands at Harwood Junior High School in Bedford, Texas, where he will continue to give clinics pertaining to ensemble woodwind technique and jazz performance. Chris also served on the staff of the acclaimed Texas Wind Symphony and performs with the Dallas Wind Symphony
  • Theresa (Merkel) McKnight (B.M. in Mus.Ed. Miami '94), earned her Masters in Music Education at Wright State University in 2006. She is teaching Elementary Music at Oakdale Elementary in the Oak Hills Local School District in Cincinnati
  • Angela (Fondale) Leonard (B.M. in Mus.Ed. Miami '94), is teaching middle school choir at Cloverleaf Local Schools (Lodi, Ohio).  She is adjunct faculty at Ashland University, where she is the assistant marching band director & drill writer. She is a member of the Ashland's Community Band
  • Ryan Hinkle (B.M. in Mus.Ed. Miami 2001) is band director for the Nashville School Distric, TN
  • Anne Dickson Rogers (B.A. in Music, 1996) is Orchestra Personnel Manager for the Nashville Symphony since 2001. Previously, she served as Orchestra Personnel manager for the San Antonio Symphony, as Production Manager for the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, and as a library assistant for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra
