Oxford - Well over 50 scholarships, awards, and grants to undergraduate students were announced on April 29 at the annual Scholarships and Awards Convocation held by the Department of Music and presided over by its chair, Dr. Ricahrd Green.
"This is one way that the department can show its appreciation to those students who go the extra mile in their personal work and make special contributions to the department in any variety of ways," says Greg Phillips, a member of one of the committees that determined this year's winners.
Many of the awards, scholarships, and grants are given in the name of a particular individual and are sponsored by family and friends of individuals. Several scholarships are sponsored by foundations or organizations.

Presser Scholar. The most prestigious of the awards, the Presser Foundation Scholarship, was awarded to senior vocal major Sean Lair, a native of Stanford, Kentucky. The award, based upon scholarship, professional promise, and departmental worth, carries with it a monetary award and the title of "Presser Scholar."
Coordinators for the convocation were music professors Gary Speck and Kay Edwards.
