The Competition
Year 2009: Non-Representational Painting

Young Painters, U.S. residents, ages 25 – 35 as of competition entry are invited to participate in an annual juried competition for the 2009 $10, 000 William and Dorothy Yeck Award. Entrants should have achieved a significant degree of success as an emerging artist of noteworthy talent. The winner will become part of the Miami University Best Young Painters of the Twenty-First Century Collection.



Juror
Bob Nugent, Professor Emeritus, Sonoma State University, received his Master of Fine Arts Degree in Painting from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1971. Since that time he has been awarded numerous grants and fellowships including a Tiffany Foundation Fellowship, NEA Fellowship, Fulbright Travel Grant and a California Arts Council Grant for his work in Brazil. His paintings, prints and drawings have been a part of over 95 one-man exhibitions and included in over 500 group exhibitions throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and South America. Nugent's work is part of numerous national, international and private collections including, the Oakland Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro, The Brooklyn Museum, Bank of America Collection, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Amerada Hess Oil, 3M Corporation, Kaiser Permanente, and the Museum of Latin American Art. In addition, he has been commissioned to produce artwork for Hilton Corporation, Hyatt Regency, the Mirage Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, the Atlantis Hotel, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Westin Hotel and the architecture firm of Skidmore/Owings/Merrill, Chicago, Illinois.

$10,000 William and Dorothy Yeck Purchase Award
$1,500 Second Prize
$1,000 Third Prize


Notification
The $10,000 Purchase Award winner may be invited to visit the University and will also have a one-person exhibition to coincide with the 2010 competition. Participation in the exhibition entry process constitutes an understanding and acceptance of the conditions set forth herein, including the right of Miami University to use submitted images for publicity and educational purposes.


Shipping
All finalists will assume the cost of shipment of artworks to Miami University. Miami University will assume the cost of return shipping of the finalists’ paintings. Works will be fully insured while on the premises of Miami University and while being returned to the artist.
